Welcome to Spencer County

Spencer County Kentucky Real Estate I live, work and play in Spencer County and I love it! We purchased land in Spencer County in 1997. At the time I was a city girl through and through. My husband, Rick, wanted to purchase some land and build a home. I didn't want to move out to Spencer County at first. After several trips searching for land to build on it was obvious that this place was growing on me.

We finally found the perfect 5 acres for our home in the Elk Creek area. We would come out on weekends and mow, walk the creek which ran through the property, and I would always pack a lunch for us to eat. We would visit Taylorsville Lake State Park and Taylorsville Lake as well. It wasn't long before we started meeting and talking with other residents. I was hooked!

The drive time from Jeffersontown is minimal and the drive is also extremely pretty and serene. There were no subdivisions dotting the landscape on Taylorsville Lake Rd. It was all just rolling countryside, with cows, silos, tobacco farms and of course horses. When we made the move permanently I didn't give up the big city conveniences that I thought I would be giving up. I truly have the best of both worlds. I have my elbow room, abundant rural charm, and less traffic. If I want to be in the big city for major shopping, dining and entertainment, I can literally be anywhere in Louisville within 30 minutes. A lot of my favorite places to shop and dine are within 20 minutes of my home in Spencer Co.

Evidently a lot of other people have agreed with me over the years. Taylorsville Lake Rd. is now dotted with subdivisions. In the last couple of years I have seen McDonald's and Papa John's open businesses in Taylorsville, and a strip mall with Kroger as its anchor is now only 9 miles away just on the other side of the Gene Snyder Freeway.

According to the latest census data that was released and published in the Courier Journal on March 16, 2011, Spencer County is the fastest growing county in the state and has seen a remarkable 45% population growth. It is not surprising to me. My once well kept secret is no longer secret! Even with the growth, and beautiful subdivisions that now occupy what was once farm land, Spencer County has managed to keep its rural charm. I live here, I work here, and I truly love Spencer County.

Call me. I would love to forward a packet of information on Spencer County to you. I am very familiar with the county and would also be honored to take you on a scenic drive to show you all that Spencer County has to offer.

Favorite

Taylorsville has many quaint restaurants. My absolute favorite is The Tea Cup in downtown Taylorsville. The Tea Cup is open Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The service is awesome and the food is incredible.

Tea Cup Spencer Co KentuckyIn June of 1998 David and Lorie Young, husband and wife, purchased the Akins Shell building. What is now The Tea Cup used to be a Shell gas station. David and Lorie removed the car lifts and garage doors, refurbished the interior and exterior and created a one of a kind venue.

The day starts early for the Young's and continues throughout the afternoon. Everything is homemade from scratch using the finest quality fresh ingredients. You can start your day off right with an Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte or Dave's Blend of regular coffee, decaf coffee, flavored coffee or tea. A freshly baked bagel, fruit danish, assorted muffins or cinnamon roll would be the perfect accompaniment to your favorite morning beverage.

I have eaten many lunches at The Tea Cup and everything is fabulous, and again homemade. They make their own soups and even the croissants that I eat my tuna on! There is a daily lunch special. You can call your order in and just pick it up if you would like. I really like going in The Tea Cup to eat. It is quite a treat. You can't leave without purchasing at least, or more, of their delightfully rich desserts, pies or cakes. You could share with a friend - or maybe not! The friendly folks at The Tea Cup invite you to stop often, bring a friend or two, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The Tea Cup is truly a pleasant retreat.

The Tea Cup is located at 37 E. Main Street Taylorsville Kentucky 40071. You can call ahead to obtain the daily special or place your order at 502.477.0287. Dave and Lorie rock my taste buds!!!
